It’s 12th June and is Marie Anneliese Frank’s birthday!
It would have been beautiful if she would have been alive, we wouldn’t be writing articles about her, we would be writing articles for her. A subtle pre eminent writer with nice cheekbones, a saccharine smile, short hair and feelings that will cause a catstrophe in your mind, Anne Frank was a Dutch Jewish, had an elder sister Margot, mother named Edith and father whose name was Otto. They lived in Frankfurt and shifted to Holland.
We talk about her because her diary was one of the most legendary diaries found of the Holocaust. Hitler had his really own way to toruture lives and was way too much behind Jews. Thought only Germans (golden hair, blue eyes, fair skin) should live and serve Germany else everyone shoot and kill.
He had a notorious problem with Jewish for the same reason and as you know had set up concentration camps to make their life miserable when it was all good. Jews were arrested and sent to camps and made to labour and many died because of infectious disease.
Anne frank took to writing when the diary was gifted to her on her 13th birthday. She wrote because she mentioned that she had classmates and other people that loved her but couldn’t find anyone to open her endless mind to and hence considering her diary as her bestfriend named it as _kitty_
In May 1940 she states that due to the war and german arrival in Holland things got worse as Jews were restricted like anything! They wouldn’t be allowed to drive their own cars, not stay sit in their gardens till 8 pm, not shop from 3 pm to 5 pm and many more, not go out between 8 pm to 6 am.
Secret Annex was their hiding place. Frank’s father’s warehouse worked for this. Inside the warehouse was Mr. Kugler’s office and further and further deeper was a grey door leading to a private office.
This office was elegant and on it’s third floor were two doors, and one of the doors led to a secret house where Frank’s family and three more people which were their family friends and business partner lived. The door was replaced with a bookshelf such that it could be opened from one side.
All in this hiding time, Anne kept on writing in her diary and sharing the frustration or happiness, sorrow or her early teens years.
While they were in hiding, Gerrit Bolkestein was a part of the Exile Dutch Government announced that all the people writing diaries and letters in this time talking about their experiences, those diaries will be published for the coming people to make them aware what it was like to live in such times.
She was thrilled to hear this and started writing her diary again, editing it and making it interesting and deep.
They got arrested in August 1944 and were sent to Amsterdam further to Auschwitz that is different concentration camps. They weren’t together- male and females were separated still later Edith remained in Auschwitz and Margot and Anne were sent to Bergen Belsen and later after months had gotten typhoid. Both of them died because of that- Margot in January and Anne in February or March.
Her father was the only survivor and when things were okay he found Anne’s diary in the drawer of their hiding place and knew she wanted it to be published. He did so but had cut off some sexual and opposive things about her mother. Later Anne Frank’s unedited diary (not the book) was published as a Critical Edition.
And the last Definitive Edition had all the versions, her unedited diary, her book and some articles.
The point at the end is how Anne had a running mind and what it would have been to be in a concentration camp without taking out anything, just pure suffering.
I think if she would have been alive today or atleast survived the camp, her words, her courage, her heart would have been like an ointment on a burnt finger, soothing and sharp.
Hoping you will read her diary!
